Inauguration of Central Research Laboratory at AIIMS Bhubaneswar

  • Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda inaugurated the Central Research Laboratory at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
  • On this occasion, he also laid the foundation stone of a Multi-Utility (Gastroenterology) Block.

AIIMS :

  • The full form is All India Institute of Medical Sciences
  • The establishment of AIIMS in India started in 1956 with the first institute in New Delhi
  • There are 22 to 26 AIIMS in India either operational or in various stages of development

Laws Enforced Based on Supreme Court Verdict

  • The Tamil Nadu government has enforced 10 laws without the formal assent of the Governor or the President, based on a Supreme Court verdict.
  • This verdict was delivered on 8 April 2025, in which the Supreme Court ruled that the Governor’s decision to refer the bills to the President was unconstitutional, especially when the State Assembly had reconsidered and passed them again.

Schemes Worth ₹548 Crore Approved

  • This river originates from Gangotri in the Himalayas and falls into the Bay of Bengal after covering a distance of about 2,525 km.

3rd BIMSTEC Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting

  • The 3rd BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting was held in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.
  • India was represented by the Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and discussions were held on enhancing agricultural cooperation among BIMSTEC member countries.

GI Tag Granted to 21 Traditional Products

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Geographical Indication (GI) tag certificates to 21 traditional products, including Agra’s Pachchikari (inlay work), during an event held in Varanasi.
  • Related Facts :
  • 9 products from the Varanasi region received the GI tag, including Banarasi Tabla, stuffed chilli, shehnai, metal casting craft, red peda, tricolour barfi and thandai.
  • Products like inlay work from Agra, Sanji art from Mathura, zari-zardozi from Bareilly, woodcraft from Chitrakoot, and flute from Pilibhit are also included in the list.

  • Indian archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Rishabh Yadav won the gold medal in the compound mixed team event at the Archery World Cup Stage-1, held in Florida, USA.

Baisakhi

  • Baisakhi is a major Indian festival, celebrated mainly on 13th or 14th April.

  • Daripalli Ramayya, also known as "Vanajeevi" and "Chettu Ramayya," passed away on 12th April 2025 at the age of 87 in Khammam district, Telangana.
  • A resident of Khammam, Ramayya dedicated his life to environmental conservation and is estimated to have planted over 1 crore trees.

Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

  • The Jallianwala Bagh massacre is one of the most tragic events in Indian history, which took place on 13th April 1919 in Amritsar, Punjab.
  • On this day, under the orders of British Army General Reginald Dyer, unarmed and peaceful protesters were fired upon, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of innocent people and leaving thousands injured.

International Human Space Flight Day
