Small Hive Beetle (Aethina tumida) Found in India
- The presence of the Small Hive Beetle (Aethina tumida), a foreign beetle species, has been recorded for the first time in India at a beekeeping center in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
- Originally native to sub-Saharan Africa, this beetle acts as a parasite in honeybee hives, feeding on bee eggs, larvae, honey, and pollen, causing severe damage to beehives.
