AFSPA in Manipur:

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) across Manipur, except for 13 police station areas.
  • In the northeastern state of Manipur, President's Rule has been in effect since February 13, 2025, following the resignation of BJP leader N. Biren Singh from the post of Chief Minister.

AFSPA:

 

  • The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 is a special law that grants special powers to the armed forces in disturbed areas.
  • Its purpose is to maintain national security and law and order.
  • AFSPA is currently in force in parts of Northeast India, including Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, and some districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

'Mann Ki Baat' Program – 120th Episode:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 120th episode of his monthly radio program 'Mann Ki Baat' on 30 March 2025.

Iron Ore in the Country:

  • According to the Ministry of Mines, the production of key minerals such as iron ore, manganese ore, bauxite, and lead continued to grow rapidly in FY 2024-25, following a record production level in FY 2023-24.

Mineral Production:

  • Iron Ore: 263 MMT (FY 2023-24: 252 MMT) → 4.4% increase
  • Manganese Ore: 3.4 MMT (FY 2023-24: 3.0 MMT) → 12.8% increase

"Large Language Models and Generative AI" Hackathon:

  • The National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur organized a hackathon on "Large Language Models and Generative AI" from 28-29 March 2025.

Participation:

  • Students from various engineering colleges across India participated. The winning teams included VIT Vellore, MNNIT Allahabad, IIT Lucknow and Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies, Nuzivid.

"NITI NCAER State Economic Forum" Portal:

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched the "NITI NCAER State Economic Forum" portal on 1 April 2025 in New Delhi.
  • The portal aims to promote economic growth of states and strengthen collaboration in policymaking.

The portal has four main components:

 

 

  • State Reports: Summary of the overall and fiscal position of 28 states
  • Data Collection: Direct access to demographic, economic structure, fiscal, health and education data

  • UNESCO released the "Education and Nutrition: Learn to Eat Well" report during the 'Nutrition for Growth' program held in France.
  • The report emphasizes improving the quality of school meals and urges governments to enhance nutritional standards for school food globally.

Key Facts from the Report:

 

  • In 2022, around 27% of school meals globally were prepared without the guidance of nutrition experts.
  • Out of 187 countries, only 93 countries had laws, standards, or guidelines regarding school meals. Among these, only 65% regulated the food sold in school cafeterias, food shops, and vending machines.
  • Since 1990, the obesity rate among school children has doubled in most countries, while food insecurity continues to rise globally.

Hurun Global Rich List 2025

  • According to the Hurun Global Rich List 2025, India ranks third in terms of the number of billionaires, with a total of 284 billionaires.
  • The combined wealth of Indian billionaires has reached ₹98 lakh crore (approximately $1.2 trillion), reflecting a 10% increase compared to the previous year.

India's position:

 

 

  • India is now ranked third after the US and China.
  • Shanghai has overtaken Mumbai to become Asia's billionaire capital with 92 billionaires while Mumbai has 90.
  • Of the Indian billionaires, 175 have seen their wealth increase while 109 have seen their wealth either stagnant or decline.
  • India has 7 billionaires under the age of 40, most of whom are from Bengaluru and Mumbai.

INIOCHOS-25 Multinational Air Exercise

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) began participating in the INIOCHOS-25 multinational air exercise on 31 March 2025 at the Andravida Air Base, Greece.

Anandi Bai Joshi

  • Anandi Bai Joshi, India's first female doctor, was born on this day, 31 March 1865, in Kalyan, Bombay Presidency.
  • Her birth name was Yamuna, and she was married at the age of nine to Gopalrao Joshi, who was 20 years older than her.
