National News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Visit to States

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh on March 30, 2025.
  • During this visit, he will participate in several important programs and inaugurate as well as lay the foundation stone for various development projects.

Major events:

  • Will pay tribute to RSS founder Dr. K.B. Hedgewar, will visit Smriti Mandir in Nagpur
  • Will visit Dikshabhoomi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar adopted Buddhism in 1956
  • Will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth ₹33,700 crore.

Renewable Energy in India

  • According to the Central Government, India has immense potential for renewable energy generation, which reached 21,09,655 megawatts (MW) by March 2024.

  • According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the major share of power generation capacity was from wind energy at about 55 percent i.e. 11,63,856 MW.
  • This was followed by solar energy at 7,48,990 MW and large hydro at 1,33,410 MW.
  • More than half of the renewable energy generation capacity is concentrated in four states i.e. Rajasthan at 20.3 per cent, Maharashtra at 11.8 per cent, Gujarat at 10.5 per cent and Karnataka at 9.8 per cent.

7th Capacity Building Programme

Establishment of the Second National Gene Bank

  • The Central Government announced the establishment of the Second National Gene Bank (NGB) as part of its efforts to ensure long-term food and nutritional security.
  • This initiative is a part of the 2025-26 Union Budget and is considered a significant step towards preserving agricultural biodiversity.

  • The new gene bank will preserve 10 lakh (1 million) germplasm lines, a collection of important genetic resources of plants and crops. These resources will be used in research, conservation and crop improvement
  • Gene Bank: A repository where seeds, pollen, plant tissue or DNA samples are preserved to protect them from extinction and for future use
  • India’s first National Gene Bank was established in 1996 in New Delhi.

Inauguration of 5.4 GW Solar Cell Gigafactory/Manufacturing Facility

  • Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Prahlad Joshi, inaugurated Warree Energy's state-of-the-art 5.4 GW Solar Cell Gigafactory/Manufacturing Facility in Chikhli, Gujarat.
  • It is India's largest solar cell manufacturing facility, spread across approximately 150 acres, with 101 acres of built-up area.

Successful Test of Semi-Cryogenic Engine

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully tested a semi-cryogenic engine with a thrust capacity of 2,000 kilonewtons (kN).
  • This engine operates on a mixture of liquid oxygen (LOX) and kerosene fuel, making it more efficient and environmentally friendly compared to traditional cryogenic engines.

  • This engine will power the booster stages of future launch vehicles, specifically the LVM3 (Launch Vehicle Mark-3).
  • This will increase the payload capacity of LVM3 from 4 tonnes to 5 tonnes

Shyamji Krishna Varma

  • Every year on March 30, freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Varma is remembered on his death anniversary.
  • He was born on October 4, 1857, in Mandvi, Gujarat, and dedicated most of his life to the struggle for India's independence.

  • Born: 4 October 1857, Mandvi, Kutch (Gujarat)
  • Death: March 1930, Geneva, Switzerland
  • He became the first Indian professor of Sanskrit at Oxford University.
  • Established India House in London in 1905, which became the center of Indian revolutionaries

  • Published a magazine called 'The Indian Sociologist' from Britain in 1905
  • In 2003, the Government of India brought his ashes from Geneva to India and immersed them respectfully in Kutch.
