National News

PMKVY Training Data (2015-2024)

  • Under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), 1,60,33,081 candidates were trained from 2015 to 2024.

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY):

  • Launched: 2015
  • Objective: To encourage and promote skill development
  • Launching Ministry: Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE)
  • Placements were tracked under the Short Term Training (STT- rate 43 per cent) component of PMKVY in three versions, namely PMKVY 1.0, PMKVY 2.0 and PMKVY 3.0, implemented from FY 2015-16 to FY 2021-22

Achievement of Amrit Sarovar Yojana

  • Under the Amrit Sarovar Yojana (launched in 2022), more than 68,000 Amrit Sarovars have been completed across the country by March 20, 2025.
  • The scheme was initiated with the objective of constructing or rejuvenating at least 75 Amrit Sarovars in each district of India, aiming to address the water crisis in rural areas.

Priority to Farmers' Welfare

  • The Central Government, prioritizing farmers' welfare, has significantly increased the budget allocation for the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare.
  • For 2025-26, the ministry's budget has been raised to ₹1,37,756.55 crore, up from ₹1,32,469.86 crore in 2024-25.

Premium and Budget under PMFBY :

  • The premium rate under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) decreased from 15.9% in 2020-21 to 10.8% in 2023-24.
  • For 2024-25, the Revised Estimate (RE) for PMFBY funding was increased to ₹15,864 crore, up from the Budget Estimate (BE) of ₹14,600 crore.
  • The budget for 2025-26 is set at ₹12,242 crore.
  • The Cabinet has approved a total budget of ₹69,515.71 crore for the scheme from 2021-22 to 2025-26.

USCIRF Annual Report on India

  • The annual report of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has expressed serious concerns about the state of religious freedom in India.
  • The report states that attacks and discrimination against religious minorities in India are increasing and the situation is getting worse in 2024. India has demanded USCIRF to declare it a "matter of concern".

Insurance for Blue-Collar Workers

  • It has been introduced in collaboration with Dubai National Insurance (DNI) and its marketing partner Nexus Insurance Brokers LLC.

  • Coverage: Compensation for death or permanent disability due to any cause.
  • Compensation Amount: Up to 35,000 dirhams in case of death or permanent disability.
  • Repatriation Cost: Up to 12,000 dirhams for repatriation of the body after death.
  • Premium: Annual premium ranges between 37 to 72 dirhams.

Agreement to Establish GDSC

  • India and Singapore signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) during the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) to establish a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC).
  • The initiative aims to promote digitization and decarbonization projects in the maritime transport sector.

Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024

  • The Rajya Sabha has passed the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024, which was earlier passed by the Lok Sabha on December 3, 2024.

  • Nominees in Bank Accounts: Allows up to four nominees in bank accounts.
  • Directors' Financial Interest Limit: Increases the "material interest" limit for bank directors from ₹5 lakh to ₹2 crore.
  • Directors' Tenure in Cooperative Banks: Extends the tenure of directors in cooperative banks from 8 years to 10 years.
  • Regulatory Compliance for Banks: Changes the reporting dates for regulatory compliance from the 2nd and 4th Fridays to the 15th and last date of each month.

Announcement to Close MLTGD Component

  • The Central Government has announced the closure of the Medium and Long-Term Government Deposit (MLTGD) component under the Gold Monetization Scheme (GMS) from March 26.
  • According to the Ministry of Finance, banks can continue their 1-3 year short-term gold deposit schemes.
