Dairy Development Schemes by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying
- The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying is implementing the following schemes across the country to complement and supplement the efforts of state governments in milk production and dairy processing infrastructure:
National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD):
The NPDD is implemented with two components:
Component 'A':
Objective:
- Creation and strengthening of infrastructure for:
- State Cooperative Dairy Federations
- District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Unions
- Self-Help Groups (SHGs)
- Milk Producer Companies
- Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)
Activities:
- Development of quality milk testing equipment.
- Primary cooling facilities infrastructure.
- Component 'B' – Dairying through Cooperatives:
Objective:
- Increase farmers' access to organized markets.
- Enhance dairy processing and marketing infrastructure.
Activities:
- Strengthening dairy producer institutions' capacity.
- Empowering producer-owned organizations.
Support for Dairy Cooperative Societies and Farmer Producer Organizations (SDCFPO):
- Objective:
- Provide support to dairy cooperatives during natural disasters or adverse market conditions.
Assistance:
- Interest subvention on working capital loans.
Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF):
- Objective:
- Provide financial assistance for processing and value addition in the animal husbandry sector.
Eligibility:
- Individual entrepreneurs, dairy cooperatives, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), MSMEs, private companies, and Section 8 companies.
Activities:
- Dairy processing and value addition infrastructure.
- Animal feed manufacturing plants.
- Breed improvement techniques and breed multiplication farms.
- Animal waste management (wealth generation from agricultural waste).
- Veterinary vaccine and medicine production facilities.
Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM):
- Objective:
- Conservation and promotion of indigenous cattle breeds.
- Increase milk production and productivity of bovine animals.
- Improve quality of the bovine population through genetic upgradation.
Key Initiatives:
- Establishment of Gokul Grams.
- Artificial Insemination (AI) program for breed improvement.
- Use of the Kamdhenu Hitarth App.
National Livestock Mission (NLM):
- Objective:
- Promote entrepreneurship in poultry, sheep, goat, and pig farming.
- Strengthen breeding infrastructure.
Beneficiaries:
- Individuals, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Section 8 companies, and state governments.
- Incentives:
- Financial assistance for breed improvement.
- Support for infrastructure development for entrepreneurs.
Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP):
- Objective:
- Preventive vaccination against animal diseases.
- Capacity building in veterinary services.
- Strengthening disease surveillance and veterinary infrastructure.
Key Initiatives:
- Livestock vaccination camps.
- Expansion of veterinary services.
Social Media Awareness Campaign:
- Objective:
- Raise awareness about the nutritional benefits of milk and dairy products.
- Promotion Methods:
- Awareness posts, infographics, reels, and hashtags.
- Digital outreach for enhanced public engagement.
