National News

145 NAM Approved in the Last Five Years

  • The Central Government has approved the establishment of 145 Integrated AYUSH Hospitals (IAH) under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) through the governments of states and union territories over the past five years.
  • Under NAM, a total of ₹27,6529.87 lakh has been released as financial assistance to the states/UTs for the holistic promotion and development of AYUSH systems during this period.

"Childhood Poetry Initiative: Restoring Indian Poems for Young Children"

  • The Union Ministry of Education has launched a new initiative called "Childhood Poetry Initiative: Restoring Indian Poems for Young Children".
  • Its objective is to create a collection of nursery rhymes in all Indian languages and English, which are relevant to the Indian context.

  • The contest will begin from March 22 and will continue till April 22.
  • Children in the age group of 3 to 8 years are eligible to participate.
  • Contest participants can send in existing folklore poems (with author’s name) or newly composed funny poems under three categories namely Pre-Primary (age 3-6), Grade 1 (age 6-7) and Grade 2 (age 7-8).

Delhi Budget for FY 2025-26

  • Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented a ₹1 lakh crore budget for the financial year 2025-26 in the Assembly on March 25, 2025.
  • This budget is 31.5% higher compared to the previous year.

Highlights:

  • Education: ₹750 crore allocated to provide free laptops to 1,200 meritorious students on passing Class 10
  • Environment: ₹300 crore provision for air pollution control and ₹500 crore for cleaning Yamuna river
  • Total health budget: ₹6,874 crore
  • ₹139 crore for promotion of art and culture
  • ₹696 crore for development of slum clusters

Massive Crude Oil Reserves: Uttar Pradesh

  • Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has discovered massive crude oil reserves in Sagarpali village, Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh.
  • The oil was found at a depth of 3,000 meters, and the area spans approximately 302 square kilometers.

Uttar Pradesh's Economy

  • According to State Bank of India Research, by the year 2027, Uttar Pradesh's economy is projected to become the second largest in India after Maharashtra.
  • As a result, Uttar Pradesh's share in India's GDP is expected to increase from 7% to 10%, while Maharashtra's share is estimated to be 13%.

Solar Power Production in Uttar Pradesh

  • Since 2017, solar power production in Uttar Pradesh has increased tenfold.
  • Currently, the state has developed a solar power capacity of 2,653 MW, with a future target of 22,000 MW.

To achieve this goal, various schemes have been formulated under the Uttar Pradesh Solar Energy Policy 2022:

 

  • Utility Scale Solar Projects/Parks: 14,000 MW
  • Solar Rooftop Projects:
  • Residential: 4,500 MW
  • Non-Residential Institutions: 1,500 MW
  • Distributed Solar Generation (Components C1 and C2 of PM Kusum Yojana): 2,000 MW

 

Road Construction and Widening in Uttar Pradesh

  • Since April 2017, Uttar Pradesh has made significant progress in road construction and widening.

Russia-Ukraine Agreement

  • Russia and Ukraine have reached an agreement during US-mediated talks to halt military attacks in the Black Sea and on energy sites.
  • This agreement will remain effective for 30 days.

  • Area: About 4,36,000 sq km
  • Maximum depth: About 2,212 m

33rd WMCC Meeting

  • The 33rd meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on India-China border affairs was held in Beijing, China.
  • During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on cross-border cooperation and exchanges regarding trans-border rivers and the resumption of the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra.

Cooperation on Digitalisation and Decarbonisation in the Maritime Sector

  • Singapore and India signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for Cooperation on Digitalisation and Decarbonisation in the Maritime Sector.
  • The signing took place on 25 March 2025 in Singapore, attended by Mr Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive of the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) and Mr R Lakshmanan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, India.

Finance Bill 2025

  • The Lok Sabha passed the Finance Bill 2025 by voice vote on March 25, 2025, with 35 government amendments.
  • One of the key amendments includes the removal of the 6% digital tax on online advertisements, commonly known as the "Google Tax".

  • India's milk production has increased by 63.56% over the past 10 years, rising from 146.3 million tonnes in 2014-15 to 239.2 million tonnes in 2023-24, with an annual growth rate of 5.7%.
  • In comparison, global milk production is growing at a rate of 2% per year.
