  • QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) has released the subject-wise World University Rankings for 2025 on its official website, featuring 55 subjects.

These rankings are evaluated based on five key indicators:

  • Academic Reputation: The reputation of the university based on global academic community perspectives.
  • Employer Reputation: The demand and reputation of university graduates among employers.
  • Research Citations per Paper: The average number of citations per published research paper, reflecting the quality of research.
  • H-Index: A measure of the productivity and impact of researchers or institutions.
  • International Research Network: The extent of global research collaboration and networking.

These rankings are categorized into five main subjects:

  • Arts and Humanities
  • Engineering and Technology
  • Life Sciences and Medicine
  • Natural Sciences
  • Social Sciences and Management

Top Universities in Key Subjects:

Engineering and Technology:

1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - Top rank in this field.

2. Oxford University - Second place.

3. Stanford University - Third place.

Natural Sciences:

1. Harvard University - Top rank in this field.

2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - Second place.

3. Oxford University - Third place.

Arts and Humanities:

1. Harvard University - Top rank in this field.

2. Oxford University - Second place.

3. Cambridge University - Third place.

  • Asia: Nanyang Technological University (NTU) surpassed the National University of Singapore (NUS) to become the top university in the region for Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
  • Europe: Cambridge University remains the leading institution in this region.

79 Indian Universities Included:

  • In the 2025 QS World University Rankings, a total of 533 universities are ranked, with 79 Indian universities included.
  • Among these, 65% (51 universities) showed improvement in their rankings.
  • Indian universities performed well primarily in Engineering and Technology (24 universities).
  • Following that, universities in Social Sciences (20), Natural Sciences (19), Arts and Humanities (10), and Life Sciences and Medicine (6) were included.
