Burials must occur in designated graveyards for each faith

  • The Supreme Court ruled that burials must occur in designated graveyards for each faith. It found Chhattisgarh’s affidavit about a Christian graveyard vague and asked for more details. The case concerns a burial dispute over a senior citizen’s burial place.

10,000 GI Tags by 2030

  • Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has set a target of reaching 10,000 Geographical Indication (GI) Tags by 2030, at GI Samagam in New Delhi.

Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, of 1999 governs the registration and protection of GIs The GI Registry is located in Chennai The tag was first given to Darjeeling Tea.

26 Tableaux in 76th Republic Day Parade

  • 26 tableaux from various states, union territories, and Union Ministries will present the diversity of the country during the 76th Republic Day Parade.
The tableaux are based on the theme of ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat Aur Vikas’.

Maharashtra signed 54 MoUs at WEF Meeting

  • The Maharashtra government has signed 54 MoUs worth 15.70 lakh crore rupees during the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2025 in Davos.
Key agreements with MSN Holdings Ltd, which plans to establish an advanced lithium battery and cell manufacturing project under the state’s ‘Ultra Mega Project’ initiative.

UCC in Uttarakhand

  • Uttarakhand became the first state in India to implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), to simplify and standardize personal laws related to marriage, divorce, succession, and inheritance, which will apply to all residents of Uttarakhand, except Scheduled Tribes and protected authority-empowered persons and communities.
UCC is mentioned in Article 44 of the Indian Constitution as a Directive Principle of State Policy.

MSP of raw jute for the 2025-26

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has fixed the minimum support price (MSP) of raw jute for the 2025-26 marketing season at ₹5,650 a quintal, an increase of ₹315 over the price in 2024-25.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) of the Union government approves the MSP based on recommendations from the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).

  • India's non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity has reached 217 gigawatts by the 20th January, 2025.

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) released a comprehensive report titled ‘Estimation and Measurement of India’s Digital Economy.’

Key findings

India’s digital economy is estimated at 11.74% of the national income in 2022-23, digital economy in 2022-23 was equivalent to INR 31.64 lakh crore (~USD 402 billion) in GDP.
