  • Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw laid the foundation stone of a new laptop assembly line at Syrma SGS Technology's advanced facilities in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Train wheels manufacturing in India

  • Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced during a visit to the wheel manufacturing unit of Ramkrishna Forgings and Titagarh Rail Systems in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu that India will start manufacturing train wheels under the Make in India initiative by partnering with private firms from 2026.

Sunita Williams’ return to spacewalks

  • Indian-origin NASA astronaut Sunita Williams will return to spacewalks after 12 years on January 16, alongside Nick Hague, to repair the NICER X-ray telescope aboard the International Space Station (ISS), where she has spent over eight months.
NASA's NICER is an X-ray observatory, launched on June 03, 2017, that studies neutron stars, black holes and other phenomena.

  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced at the CSPOC Standing Committee meeting in Guernsey that India will host the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments of Commonwealth countries (CSPOC) in 2026.
