Tele-MANAS

Fri 11 Oct, 2024

Context

  • The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) celebrated the completion of two years of Tele Mental Health Support and Networking (Tele MANAS) across States on World Mental Health Day.

What is Tele-MANAS?

  • The Tele-Manas initiative, launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in October 2022, provides 24/7 free tele-mental health services across the country, especially to those living in remote or underprivileged areas.

Major features:

  • Accessibility: The service is available seven days a week, 365 days a year, making it easily accessible to individuals in need.
  • Free counselling: Tele MANAS provides free mental health counseling, making it accessible to those with limited financial resources.
  • Confidentiality: All counselling is confidential, ensuring the privacy of individuals seeking help.
  • Professional support: The service connects individuals to qualified mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.
  • Multiple Language options: Tele MANAS is available in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, and regional languages, to meet the diverse linguistic needs of the population.

How does Tele MANAS work?

  • Individuals in need of mental health support can contact Tele MANAS via the toll-free helpline (112 or 155357), WhatsApp helpline (112 or 155357), or the official website.
  • Upon contacting Tele MANAS, individuals will be connected to a mental health professional who will assess their needs and provide appropriate support.
  • The mental health professional will then schedule a consultation with the individual via a phone call, video call, or chat session.
  • During the consultation, the individual can discuss their mental health concerns and receive support from the professional.
  • After the consultation, the professional may recommend additional resources or follow-up sessions as needed.
