32nd ICAE

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE), organised by the International Association of Agricultural Economists, in New Delhi.
Theme: Transformation Towards Sustainable Agri-Food Systems.

National High-Speed Road Corridors

  • Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved eight important National High-Speed Road Corridor Projects with a total length of nine hundred 36 kilometres at a total cost of 50 thousand 655 crore rupees.

Environment and Biodiversity

Ecologically Sensitive Area (ESA)

  • The Centre has issued a draft notification to declare over 56 thousand 800 square kilometres of the Western Ghats across six states as an Ecologically Sensitive Area (ESA).
  • These states are Gujrat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu.

What is ESA?

The National Environment Policy (2006) defined the Eco-Sensitive Zones “as areas/zones with identified environmental resources having incomparable values which require special attention for their conservation” because of its landscape, wildlife, biodiversity, historical and natural values.

Axiom-4
