Scheme for free higher education for girls by Maharashtra

  • The Maharashtra government announced free higher education for girls belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Socially and Economically Backward Classes (SEBC), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).

86th CAA 2002

  • State shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of six to fourteen years.
  • Inserted Article 21A: Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE)

Comprehensive Handbooks on New Criminal Laws

  • Director General (DG) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Manoj Yadava released comprehensive handbooks on Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and Bharatiya Sakhsya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023, in New Delhi.

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita replaced Indian Penal Code, 1860 Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita replaced Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam replaced Indian Evidence Act, 1872

  • The Sixteenth Finance Commission has constituted an Advisory Council, to advise the Commission on any of the Terms of Reference (ToR) or related subjects that may be of relevance.

Bilateral trade target between India and Russia

  • 22nd Annual Bilateral Summit between Russia and India was held in Moscow, during the summit India and Russia have agreed to increase bilateral trade to over USD 100 billion by 2030.

Hydrogen Sulphide

  • According to new data collected by researchers from the James Webb Space Telescope, a trace amount of hydrogen sulphide was detected in the atmosphere of Jupiter like planet HD 189733b.

Jupiter: 

  • Fifth planet from the Sun.
  • Largest planet in the Solar System.
  • Composition is primarily Hydrogen and Helium.

Hydrogen Sulphide:

  • Also known as H2S
  • Colourless gas known for its pungent "rotten egg" odour at low concentrations.

25th PM-STIAC

  • The 25th Prime Minister’s Science, Technology & Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC) meeting chaired by Professor Ajay Kumar Sood was held at Vigyan Bhawan Annexe in New Delhi, to discuss Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage (CCUS) and Carbon Credit in India.
India has set a target to achieve a 45% reduction in emission intensity by 2030 and is aiming for Net Zero by 2070.

  • Turkey launched its first domestically-produced communications satellite, Turksat 6A, onboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket into space from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, United States.
