3 new criminal laws
- 3 new criminal laws, slated to replace outdated colonial-era statutes and will come into effect from July ,1, 2024.
- The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), passed in Parliament last December, will replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860, the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 respectively.
111th Episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 111th episode of Mann Ki Baat, highlighting the continuation of positive work for the country and society post Lok Sabha elections.
MoU between Ayush & CIM&H
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences – Captain Srinivasa Murthy Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CSMCARI), Chennai, under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and the Commissionerate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy (CIM&H), Arumbakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu for Testing Services and Imparting Training on Research Studies for the Standardization.

Panel to revise base year
- The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has formed a 26-member committee led by Biswantah Goldar to update the base year for national accounts, aiming to align key economic indices with current economic trends.
- This includes potentially shifting from the current base year of 2011-12 to 2020-21 for indices like the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), Producer Price Index (PPI), and Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Anti-dumping probe
- India has launched an anti-dumping investigation into the import of glass fibre from China, Thailand, and Bahrain in response to a complaint by a local manufacturer. The probe, led by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) under the commerce ministry, aims to safeguard domestic industries from inexpensive imports.

National Doctor’s Day 2024
- 1st July an annual observance celebrated in India to acknowledge and recognise the invaluable contributions of physicians to individual lives and communities.
- This date was chosen by the Government of India to honour the birth and death anniversary of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, a renowned physician, freedom fighter, and former Chief Minister of West Bengal.
