• Union Cabinet has approved the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme for India's first offshore wind energy projects with a capacity of 1 GW in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu (500 MW each) with the total outlay of Rs 7,453 crore.

• Union Cabinet has approved the development of Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport,Varanasi at a cost of 2869 crore rupees.
• The airport will be developed as a green airport ensuring environmental sustainability.

World Sickle Cell Day

• World Sickle Cell Day is observed on June 19 every year.
• Sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder caused by a mutation in the haemoglobin gene.
