e-flow ecological monitoring system

  • The Union Jal Shakti Ministry launched an e-flow ecological monitoring system that allows real-time monitoring of river quality.
  • The Environmental flows (E-flows) monitoring system has been developed by the National Mission for Clean Ganga, an arm of the Jal Shakti Ministry.

Prerna Sthal

  • The Vice President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha inaugurated the newly constructed Prerna Sthal in the presence of the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs
  • Prerna Sthal is statues of great leaders and freedom fighters are installed inside the Parliament House Complex.

PM Gati Shakti

  • The 72nd meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) evaluated three major infrastructure projects under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP).
  • It is a national master plan for multi-modal connectivity, that brings 16 ministries, including railways and roadways together for integrated planning and coordinated implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the campus of Nalanda University situated in Bihar, named after the world-famous ancient seat of learning.

India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor

  • The Group of Seven industrialised nations have committed to promoting concrete infrastructure initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) in the G7 Summit Communique issued at the end of the three-day G7 Summit, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Swiss Peace Summit

  • An international peace summit in relation to the Russo-Ukrainian War, formally called the Summit on Peace in Ukraine was held in Bürgenstock Resort in Switzerland.

National Pension System (NPS)

  • According to the latest PFRDA data, the overall National Pension System (NPS) assets under management (AUM) grew by a robust 28% to ₹12.28-lakh crore as of June 8, 2024.
  • This was aided by strong support from Private sector,  in which subscribers from both corporate and all-citizen models stands at 56.47 lakh, up 18.53% YoY

Yuva Puraskar, Bal Sahitya Puraskar

  • The Sahitya Akademi announced the winners of the prestigious Yuva Puraskar and Bal Sahitya Puraskar for 2024. A total of 23 writers, including English writer K Vaishali and Hindi author Gaurav Pandey, will receive the Yuva Puraskar. 
  • Vaishali is honored for her memoir "Homeless: Growing up Lesbian and Dyslexic in India," and Pandey for his poetry collection "Smritiyon Ke Beech Ghiri Hai Prithvi."

V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award

  • The 18th Mumbai International Film Festival is honoring the illustrious wildlife filmmaker Subbiah Nallamuthu by conferring him V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award.

  • US weather agencies has reported that after dominating global weather for nearly a year, El Nino's reign has finally ended,.
  • Pacific Ocean is likely to transition to La Nina in around two months' time, which implies that conditions will generally favour good monsoon rainfall in India in the second half of the season (Aug-Sept).

Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS)

  • A deadly outbreak of Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS), caused by a "flesh-eating" bacteria, is rapidly spreading across Japan.
  • (STSS) is an aggressive illness that can be fatal within 48 hours of infection.
