World Hydrogen Summit 2024

  • India has set up its pavilion, at the World Hydrogen Summit 2024, being held in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
  • India has set an ambitious target to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of 5 MMT (Million Metric Tonnes) by end of the year 2030.

Heavy Tariff on Chinese Electric Vehicles and Batteries

  • US President Joe Biden has imposed heavy tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, batteries, steel, solar cells, and aluminium.
  • These include a 100 per cent tariff on electric vehicles, a 50 per cent tariff on semiconductors, and a 25 per cent tariff each on electric vehicle batteries from China.

India-US Dialogue

  • The second round of the India-US Dialogue on Africa is being held in Washington.
  • This is the first such dialogue on Africa between India and the US after the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20 during India’s presidency.

BIMSTEC EPG Meets

  • The 3rd Meeting of the Eminent Persons’ Group (EPG) on Future Directions of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) was held at the BIMSTEC Secretariat in Dhaka, Bangladesh and chaired by Dr. Soonthorn Chaiyindeepum, member of EPG from Thailand.  
  • Thailand is the current Chair of BIMSTEC.

  • Google Arts & Culture and India's Ministry of Agriculture launched a new digital exhibit, "Millets: Seeds of Change".
  • The digital exhibition highlights the history of millets from ancient grains to modern-day superfoods, as well as their nutritional benefits, contribution to global climate resilience, and potential to address global food security challenges.

World Women’s Singles Rankings

  • India’s ace women’s table tennis player Manika Batra became the first Indian woman paddler to break into the top 25 of the world Women’s singles rankings.
  • She rose to her career-best ranking of 24, following her success in the Saudi Smash, last week.
  • She also equalled G. Sathyan’s five year old record for the highest rank achieved by an Indian in singles table tennis.

74th National Junior Basketball Championship

  • Karnataka women and Rajasthan men emerged as the new national basketball champions in the 74th edition of the National Junior Basketball Championship in Indore.
