Context
- In the latest Human Development Index released by the United Nations, India has been ranked 134th among 193 countries.
Key Points
- This index is based on the data of the year 2022. India has been given a total score of 0.644 in this index. Which places India in the category of countries with medium human development.
- India's per capita income has also increased, meaning people's earnings have increased.
- The UN's 2023/24 report titled 'Breaking the Gridlock: Reimagining Cooperation in a Polarised World' has been published.
- According to the data given in it, the average life expectancy in India was 67.7 years in 2022.
- It was recorded at 62.7 years a year ago.
- The UN Human Development Index (HDI) report also indicated an increase in expected years of schooling (to 12.6 per capita).
- Switzerland has been placed first in this index with a score of 0.967.
