Raisina Dialogue 2024

Context

  • The ninth edition of Raisina Dialogue was held in the capital Delhi from 21 to 23 February.

Key Points

  • Foreign ministers of many countries of the world participated in this annual conference.
  • Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis was the chief guest at the inaugural session of the conference.
  • A delegation also came to India along with the PM of Greece.
  • This will be the first bilateral visit by a Greek leader to India after 15 years. The last time the Prime Minister of Greece visited India was in 2008.
  • Over 2500 participants from 115 countries joined the dialogue in person.
  • The theme of Raisina Dialogue 2024 is Chaturanga. That is, Conflict, Contest, Co-operation and Create. Chaturanga is actually a game that originated in India, which is said to be an old form of games like chess and makara.
  • It consists of four armies, which include elephant army, chariot army, cavalry and infantry.

Conference Topic

  • A total of six topics have been decided for this conference. These include (1) Tech Frontiers: Regulations and Realities, (2) Peace with the Planet: Investment and Innovation, (3) War and Peace: Arsenals and Disparities, (4) Decolonization: Institutions and Inclusion, (5) 2030 The latter agenda includes: People and Progress and (6) Defence of Democracy: Society and Sovereignty etc.

  • Raisina Dialogue is an annual conference held in the national capital Delhi.
  • Raisina Dialogue is India's premier conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics that aims to address the most challenging issues facing the global community.
  • The conference is hosted by the Observer Research Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. It also gets the support of many institutions, organisations and individuals.
  • Raisina Dialogue was started in the year 2016 on the lines of Shangri La Dialogue.
  • It is noteworthy that the headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs of India is located in Raisina Hill (South Block), New Delhi, hence it is known as Raisina Dialogue.
