Context
- Recently, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Prime Minister's School for Rising India (PM Shri Yojana) in Chhattisgarh.
Key Points
- Under this, an amount of Rs 2-2 crore per school will be spent and schools will be developed into model schools of big cities and world class.
- PM SHRI Schools is a centrally sponsored initiative by the Government of India, which aims to establish more than 14,500 schools under Central Government/State/UT Government/local bodies including KVS and NVS.
- In this, a total of 248 schools of Chhattisgarh have been included in the first phase, in which 211 schools of Kendriya Vidyalaya, 20 schools of Navodaya Vidyalaya, 193 schools at the elementary level and 18 schools at the secondary level have been included.
- The program strives to create an inclusive and nurturing learning environment with extensive facilities for every student.
- It will reflect all the components of the National Education Policy 2020 and will act as model schools and also provide training to other schools in the vicinity.
- The scheme is proposed to be implemented over a period of 5 years from 2022-23 to 2026-27.
Key Features
- PM Shri will provide high quality education in an equitable, inclusive and joyful school environment that will take care of the diverse backgrounds, multilingual needs and different academic abilities of children and make them active participants in their learning process as per the vision of NEP.
- PM SHRI Schools will provide leadership by providing guidance to other schools in their respective areas.
- PM SHRI schools will be developed as green schools, incorporating eco-friendly aspects like solar panels and LED lights, nutrition gardens with natural farming, waste management, plastic free, water conservation and harvesting.
- Hackathon related to climate change and creating awareness for adopting a sustainable lifestyle.
- The pedagogy adopted in these schools will be more experiential, holistic, integrated, game/toy-based (especially, in the basic years), enquiry-driven, discovery-oriented, learner-centred, discussion-based, flexible and fun.
- The focus will be on the learning outcomes of each child in each classroom. Assessment at all levels will be based on conceptual understanding and application of knowledge in real life situations and will be competency-based.
- The available resources and their effectiveness will be assessed in terms of availability, adequacy, appropriateness and utilisation for each domain and their key performance indicators and the gaps will be filled in a systematic and planned manner.
- Linkages with Sector Skill Councils and local industry will be explored to enhance employability and provide better employment opportunities.
- A School Quality Assessment Framework (SQAF) is being developed, which specifies key performance indicators to measure outcomes.
- Along with this, quality assessment of these schools is carried out at regular intervals to ensure the desired standards.
