• Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the second India Energy Week (IEW) in Betul, South Goa.

• In this event, representatives from more than 100 countries around the world gathered to discuss future strategies in the energy sector.
• It showcased innovations made in the country's micro, small and medium enterprises and energy sectors.
• In this, pavilions of 6 dedicated countries (Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Russia, UK and USA) were built.
• During this, the Prime Minister announced that 67 billion dollars will be invested in the next 6-7 years to increase the share of gas sector in the Indian economy. With this, the share of natural gas in the country will increase from the current 6 percent to 15 percent.
• It is noteworthy that India is the third largest energy consumer country in the world.

What is India Energy Week?

• India Energy Week (IEW) is India's premier energy event organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, and officially supported by the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI).
• The program provides a global premier platform for leaders from the integrated energy value chain, finance, government, CEOs, policy makers and think tanks including academics to address the challenges and opportunities presented by the energy value chain.
• By a responsible energy transition that addresses security, affordability, access and sustainability.
• The IEW also showcases India's achievements as a catalyst of global economic growth with billions of dollars of investment needed to facilitate India's energy transition and achieve its net-zero goals.
• Various sessions, conferences and panel discussions under IEW are designed to address a wide range of topics such as decarbonization, supply and price volatility, the role of investments in E&P and the integration of net zero targets with business strategies.
•  Additionally, technical conferences offer engineers and project managers access to the latest industry expertise.
• It is noteworthy that the inaugural edition of India Energy Week was organised in Bengaluru from 6 to 8 February 2023.
