Context

• President Draupadi Murmu honored 19 exceptional children with the Prime Minister's National Children's Award 2024 at an award ceremony held in New Delhi.

Key Points

• Pradhan Mantri National Bal Puraskar 2024 is given to children in the age group of 5 to 18 years in seven categories namely; Awarded for his extraordinary achievements in the fields of art and culture, bravery, innovation, science and technology, social service, and sports.
• The award winners include 9 boys and 10 girls from 18 states and union territories, including 2 aspirational districts.
• Each awardee of PMRBP is given a medal and a certificate.

Two categories

• Prime Minister's Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is given under two categories: Bal Shakti Puraskar and Bal Kalyan Puraskar.

Bal Shakti Puraskar

• It was established in 1996 as the Rashtriya Bal Puraskar for Exceptional Achievement, which was renamed as Bal Shakti Award in the year 2018.
• Award : A medal, a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000, book vouchers worth Rs 10,000, a certificate and a citation.

Bal Kalyan Puraskar

• It was established in the year 1979 as Rashtriya Bal Kalyan Puraskar, which was renamed as Bal Kalyan Puraskar from 2018.
• Individual Award-1 Lakh
• Institutional Award-5 Lakh
