Military exercise Mitra Shakti 2023

Context

  • The ninth edition of India-Sri Lanka joint military exercise "Mitra Shakti-2023" began in Aundh (Pune).

 Key Points

  • This military exercise is being conducted from 16 to 29 November 2023.
  • The Indian contingent is being represented primarily by 120 soldiers of the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment.
  • The Sri Lankan side is being represented by soldiers of 53 Infantry Division.
  • 15 soldiers of the Indian Air Force and five soldiers of the Sri Lankan Air Force are also participating in the exercise.
  • The 8th edition of Mitra Shakti was held in Sri Lanka in October 2021.

 Purpose Of Exercise

  • The exercise is being conducted in line with Chapter VII of the UN Charter, with both armies contributing to UN peacekeeping forces deployed in disturbed areas around the world.
  • The exercise aims to promote closer ties between the armies of the two countries and mutual cooperation and sharing of best techniques in counter-terrorism operations.
  • Under this, both sides will jointly practice strategic actions like raid, search and destroy any unpleasant mission, heliborne operation etc.
  • Apart from this, Army Martial Arts Routine (AMAR), Combat Reflex Shooting and Yoga will also be a part of the exercise.
