Voice of Global South Summit

Context 

  • The second Voice of the Global South Summit will be hosted by India in New Delhi on November 17 to discuss the challenges arising from global development and to make the world a more inclusive, progressive world order ahead of the virtual G20 Summit.

 Key Points 

  • Like the first Voice of the Global South summit in January 2022, this year too the second summit will be organised virtually.
  • This initiative is bringing together 125 countries from the Global South on one platform to share their vision and priorities.
  • Currently, India has presented itself in the world as a representative of the Global South. During its presidency of the G20, India has emphasised that the problems of developing countries should be recognized and their priorities should include global challenges. So that the problems of developing countries can be solved.
  • The second Voice of the Global South Summit will focus on sharing with the countries of the Global South the key outcomes achieved at various G-20 meetings during India's presidency of the grouping of the world's 20 largest economies.
  • A total of 10 sessions will be organised in this summit.
  • The theme of the inaugural session is "Together, for All's Development, with All's Confidence".
  • While the theme of the concluding session is "Global South: Together for a Future".

 About Global South 

  • The ‘Global North’ and Global South are defined by an economic division into rich and poor countries respectively.
  • Under the Global South, mostly the countries of Asia, Africa and South America are included.
  • The region is blessed with a large population, rich cultures and abundant natural resources.
  • On the other hand, 'Global North' refers to countries like America, Canada, Europe, Russia, Australia and New Zealand.
