15th instalment released under PM-Kisan scheme-

Context - 

  • Recently, on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 15th instalment of about Rs 18 thousand crore under the PM-Kisan scheme in Khunti district of Jharkhand.
  • Apart from this, PM laid the foundation stone of many development projects worth about Rs 7 thousand 200 crore in Jharkhand.

 Key Points:

  • This amount will be sent to the bank accounts of farmers across the country through a direct transfer system in three equal instalments.
  • Earlier in July 2023 itself, the 14th instalment was released under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi in which Rs 17 thousand crores were deposited in the accounts of farmers.
  • It is noteworthy that PM Kisan Samman Nidhi is the world's largest scheme in which funds are transferred directly to the bank accounts of farmers.
  • Under this, the 15th instalment was released today in which more than Rs 18 thousand crore will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of the farmers.
  • This will benefit the farmers in covering various expenses.

 PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana -

  • This scheme was launched on February 24, 2019 to meet the financial needs of land holding farmers.
  • Under this, a financial benefit of Rs 6000 is transferred to the accounts of farmers through DBT in 3 equal instalments every four months.
  • This is a centrally sponsored scheme.
  • The ministry responsible for this is the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

 Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas -

  • The Union Cabinet had declared 15 November as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’ in the year 2021.

 Birsa Munda:

  • Birsa Munda was born on November 15, 1875.
  • He was a freedom fighter and folk hero and belonged to the Munda tribe of Chhota Nagpur plateau.
  • He led the Munda rebellion in the tribal region of modern-day Jharkhand and Bihar during British rule in the late 19th century.
