Context-

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched PM PVTG i.e. Particularly Disadvantaged Tribal Groups Development Mission to empower the tribal groups on the occasion of Tribal Pride Day (Birsa Munda Jayanti).

Key Points -

• PM PVTG is a scheme of Rs 24 thousand crore.
• The Mission will be implemented through the convergence of 11 interventions from 9 ministries. For example, through PMGSY, PMGAY, Jal Jeevan Mission etc.
• The launch of this mission was announced in the Union Budget 2023-24.
• The scheme has been specially designed keeping in mind the tribals living in scattered, remote and inaccessible settlements.
• Under this scheme, PVTG families and settlements will be ensured better access to road and telecom connectivity, electricity, safe housing, clean drinking water, sanitation, education, health and nutrition.
• Along with this, basic facilities like sustainable livelihood opportunities will also be developed.
• The scheme has been specially designed keeping in mind the tribals living in scattered, remote and inaccessible settlements.

About PVTG Tribes -

• These tribes, with a population of 18 lakh, live in 22,544 villages spread in 220 districts of 18 states.
• Due to living in remote areas, basic facilities have not reached them even after 76 years of independence.

• Janjatiya Gaurav Divas is celebrated every year on 15th November on the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda.
